LocAle

CAMRA's new LocAle Campaign

LocAle Nationally
There has been a great deal of interest in CAMRA's new national campaign - LocAle. In a nutshell CAMRA is promoting locally produced ales in local pubs. We are planning to launch the LocAle campaign in Blackpool Fylde and Wyre.
The campaign has been running in East Lancashire for some time, and is now coming to our area. To qualify pubs or clubs must offer a locally produced real ale, of acceptable quality, at all times. Local is defined as ale from a brewery within 30 miles of the pub or club.
    The benefits are:
  • Customers benefit as they have the choice of drinking a quality locally produced real ale
  • Licensees benefit from increased trade as customers seek out their pub or club to drink local beers
  • The environment benefits as beers have come from just down the road, not from hundreds of miles away
  • The local economy benefits from the growth of local breweries
  • The local community gains a sense of loyalty and local pride towards beers that they can identify with

If you are a customer who uses a local pub or club, which does not serve local beers, tell the licensee about LocAle. If you are a licensee who wants more information then please contact

If a particular pub chain does not offer locally produced ales contact us and we'll try to do something about it.
If you are a local brewer who is struggling to get beers on in Blackpool Fylde and Wyre pubs contact us and we’ll try to help. Leaflets, posters, window stickers and pump-toppers will be available soon and the intention is that CAMRA will foot the bill. We understand that the licensed trade is having a bad time!
With regard to LocAle, CAMRA is here to help you promote your pub or club and to promote our local brews. We now have three local breweries in our area and there are many others breweries which are comfortably within a 30 mile radius of pubs and clubs. Go out there and seek these beers out and try to make them available in your local!

Fylde LocAle Launch Evening

Brewers and Branch Members
We held a formal launch of LocAle on the Fylde at the Ship & Royal in Lytham on Thursday 16th April. With the generous support of local brewers and Lee Jane at the S & R, there were 9 local beers on – from All Gates, Bowland, Fuzzy Duck, Hart, Lytham, Red Rose, Southport, Three Bs and George Wright (alas, the Lancaster hadn’t settled in time or it might have been 10 !). What a fantastic, “good value” night! There was a great turnout from brewers, local outlets and the branch, and we were delighted that East Lancs Chair and LocAle “mover-and-shaker”, John Ingham, was able to join us too. Many, many thanks to all who helped this happen.

So what now ? you may ask. Go forth and multiply (preferably in the bibulous rather than biblical sense). We need more outlets for LocAle on the Fylde and everyone can play their part.
  • Drinkers – talk to your landlord about local beer and LocAle.
  • Brewers – tell landlords about LocAle when you deliver.
  • Landlords – find out more about your local beers (see our LocAle Pubs page for the breweries that are local to you). Please try some in your pub and, if you want to “sign up” fully to LocAle, contact us, we’ll give you the goods and get you “listed”!
